Canon Rebel T3i or Sony NEX 5?

I am looking to buy a new camera to take videos and occasionally pictures with. I have been looking at buying the T3i because of all the lenses available and video options. My dad was just recently introduced to the Sony NEX 5 and thinks it Has the exact same features as the t3i but is cheaper and smaller. Which camera is better for taking videos and some pictures?
